Sports and remedial massage involves deep soft tissue work to treat recent injury (5 days after injury at the earliest) or long-term muscle or joint problems. You do not have to be a sports person to benefit from it! Using a combination of active, passive and resisted movements, an assessment is made of the problem being experienced. Frictioning of ligaments and muscle fibre can improve range of movement and break down any adhesions or scar tissue in the muscles. Other techniques aim to reduce tension and align muscle tissue and to restore balance to the musculo-skeletal system.
Swedish Massage
Swedish massage is the manipulation of muscle tissue through a variety of movements made on the body. It aims to improve blood circulation to the area being treated, promoting disposal of metabolic waste and improving nutrition of the tissues. It is useful in interrupting muscle spasm and may thus relieve pain, reduce stiffness and improve mobility of joints and muscles. The deeper frictioning of muscle tissue may loosen scar tissue and muscle adhesions. Swedish massage is also used to promote a feeling of profound relaxation and well-being.
